Wellbeing
Please always discuss any drastic changes to your diet, with your Oncologist or GP. Some of these changes and in particular some supplements, can have a radical impact on the drugs you are prescribed.
Maggie's provide a broad range of support services, including 'Managing Emotions' and have fantastic psychologists, specially trained for dealing with cancer.
Diet
A good healthy and balanced diet is great for everybody, isn't it? Our bodies are literally fighting for our lives, so let's give them every chance to succeed. There are some extreme alternatives, including fasting and starving cancer, that some people swear by, but this is a question of personal choice and dedication to the cause. Most just follow a healthy balanced diet, with plenty of fresh vegetables and as little processed food as possible. Immunotherapy and TKI's don't exclude the consumption of alcohol, but most FROG's find that their appetite for alcohol is diminished.
Recommendations are a changing feast, literally, but here are some of our favourites, with a particular focus on protecting our tummies;
The three K's, Kombucha, Kimchi and Kefir. These are the fermented foods that contain a lot of probiotic bacteria. Similarly, probiotic yogurts such as Activia, are also popular.
Honey, lemon & ginger, along with green tea, is a popular drink. Manuka honey, whilst expensive, claims many health benefits and some of our group wouldn't be without it.
Maggie's also offer additional advice and support regarding Nutrition & Cancer.
Supplements
Medics claim that Vitamin D should be taken by just about everyone in the UK, as it's particularly important for absorbing calcium in the gut. This is doubly important for those of us with bone lesions.
Exercise
Exercise is essential for good health and particularly with fighting fatigue. It can seem counter intuitive to exercise when you're feeling tired, but we truly believe it helps. Here is some further information from Maggie's on the benefits of a good exercise regime.
